Adirondack Scuba's 19th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest It's back! Join us on Sunday, October 18th at Conklingville Dam in Sacandaga, NY for our biggest fall tradition — the Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest. Divers of all experience levels grab a pumpkin, head below the surface, and carve their masterpiece entirely underwater, then surface for judging and bragging rights. Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and waterproof costumes are always welcome. There's no entry fee — just bring a snack to share, and we'll keep you warm with hot coffee, hot and cold cider, and cider donuts. Event details Check-in begins at noon, with the dive running from 1–2pm at Conklingville Dam. Bring your own pumpkin (cleaned out ahead of time at home) and your own safe carving tools. No sketching or carving before you're in the water — organic decorations like rocks and weeds are fair game, but nothing manmade. Each diver gets one hour to carve, and a tip from the pros: bring an extra weight or two to keep your pumpkin from floating away. Requirements All divers must hold a certification card from a nationally recognized agency and sign a waiver and release agreement. Divers under 18 need a parent or guardian's signature, and divers under 15 must dive with an adult buddy. Everyone checks in and out with the event Divemaster.
